Josie Smith is for new freshman, transfer students should look at Mary Jones.
Freshman
Josie Smith declares Accounting as her major at the end of freshman year. She hears about the PRO professional development program that recognizes students on a leaderboard, badges, certificates, and swag. She knows that professional development will help her stand out in the competitive financial services job market. She wants to stand out and get the highest badge possible.
Sophomore
In the fall, Josie gets started by creating a portfolio, for which she gets points, and confirms on the PRO Dashboard. The Dashboard, which is private and unique to Josie, allows her to assess her progress based on different metrics.
Josie wants to learn about the job market, so she also signs up for a career fair in the fall. She knows she is only a sophomore, but it is never too early to start participating in activities or trying to get an internship! Plus, the career fair gets her additional points.
Meanwhile, Josie has also signed up to be part of a student organization. The student organization holds weekly meetings and workshops where students can earn PRO points. Josie ends up attending five workshops during the fall semester and earns more points.
Spring rolls around, and Josie decides to look at the calendar. She sees an interesting professional development event coming up in a few days on campus, and notes on the Community Activity list that several of her friends have signed up for similar events in the past. She decides to sign up. Later, she logs in to PRO and clicks on Manage points to request points for participation in the event. As part of the process, she uploads supporting documentation (nametag from the event). In a few days, she checks the PRO Dashboard and sees that she has earned points for attending a professional development event.
Spring also brings about a big event at her school, an annual Awards Reception. Since Josie knows how important it is to engage with others, she signs up for the event. After the reception, she receives her points. While Josie did not attend any more student organization workshops this semester, she was still an active member which means she gets points.
As a result of attending the career fair earlier, Josie was able to secure an internship at a prestigious professional services firm during the summer. Upon completion of the 8 weeklong internship Josie submits her request for PRO points. She attaches the offer letter to the request and in a few days receives points for completing the internship.
Junior
Junior year rolls around and Josie is even more involved in the student organization. She is an active member, both in the spring and the fall semesters, and she attended 5 workshops in the spring. She also attends another career fair and the annual Awards Reception again. Josie was a volunteer at the career fair this year and received points for assisting with a department event.
Josie and a team of other students enter an annual challenge that the university holds in the fall and receive points for participating. She also attended a professional development event off campus and got it preapproved beforehand. She earned points for that.
Josie wants to have some University swag so she visits the PRO Store to redeem Reward points. She knows that redeeming reward points will not affect her PRO points at all, the two are separate. She decides to get a bottle and pin to wear at the events in the fall.
Senior
At the beginning of senior year, Josie is feeling good about her professional development, but she wants the top-level badge and certificate! Josie is involved with the student organization this year again. She is an active member, both in the spring and the fall semesters, attends five workshops and is also a student organization committee member. She also attends the career fair even though she has a full-time offer. You never know when you will want to change jobs. She reports the current full-time job offer and receives points for submitting the offer letter.
She also attends the annual Awards Reception again this year and a small group meeting with industry. Josie was also a volunteer at a departmental sponsored symposium and received points for assisting with a department event. She also participated in a class project (preapproved by the instructor) and received points.
Josie and her team enter the annual university challenge again and this time they win the prize! Winning a competition earns even more points. The team is energized and enters into the National competition, and though they did not win this competition, she still receives points for participating. This brings Josie up to the highest-level badge on her portfolio now! She is also very proud of the PRO certificate that she posts on LinkedIn generating congratulations from her friends and future manager!
Since it is time to graduate, Josie wants to redeem the rest of her Rewards points, so she visits the PRO Store and cashes the points in for some cool stuff!
