Mary Jones is for transfer students; freshman should look at Josie Smith.
Junior
Mary Jones just transferred in as a junior after two years at another institution. She has declared a major, and realizes that to meet the expectations of her new school, she will need to start working on the PRO points program as soon as fall semester starts.
To get started, Mary reviews the content on the PRO site and understands that the portfolio is very important to her success. Mary uses the tips and tools on the site to start a portfolio and get her first set of points. The Dashboard, which is private and unique to Mary, also allows her track professional development progress.
Mary signs up for a career fair in the fall. She really wants an internship for this coming summer and has heard that it is important to get started early to have the most opportunities. Participating in the career fair generates points and opportunities to meet companies.
Meanwhile, Mary has also joined a student organization. The student organization holds weekly meetings and workshops where students can earn PRO points. Mary ends up attending seven speaker events, a social event, and two community service activities. All of these professional development activities accelerate her PRO point portfolio.
Spring rolls around, and Mary decides to look at the calendar on the PRO site. She sees an interesting event that is happening in a few days on campus about starting a business. She notes on the Community Activity that several other high performing students have attended similar events. She signs up for this event even though she isn’t sure about the content. Later, Mary logs in to her PRO Dashboard and clicks on Manage points to request PRO points and provides supporting documentation (nametag from the event). She also writes a reflection about how she learned what is involved in starting a business. In a few days, Mary checks the PRO Dashboard and sees that she has earned points for attending a professional development event.
Spring also brings about a big event for students, the annual Awards Reception. Since Mary knows how important it is to network, she signs up for the event and signs up for a volunteer slot. After the reception, she receives points for attending and points for volunteering. Mary also attended five more student organization workshops this semester and was an active member, earning even more points. She is really ramping up on those PRO points in Junior year!
Mary was able to secure an internship at a prestigious firm during the summer. Upon completion of the summer internship, Mary requests PRO points and attaches the offer letter. In a few days she receives congratulations! and points. Also, during the summer, Mary competes in a local competition. Even though she did not win, it was a great experience and of course it earns her more points!
Senior
Senior year rolls around and Mary is even more involved in the student organization. She is an active member, both in the spring and the fall semesters, and an officer. She participates in five workshops in the spring. She also attends a career fair and the annual Awards Reception again this year. Mary was a volunteer at the career fair this year and received points for assisting with a department event.
Mary and a team of other students enter into a University Challenge in the fall and received points for participating. She makes it to the finals and wins first prize!! This earns her even more points. Mary also attended a professional development event off campus to earn points. During the semester, Mary was invited to meet with an Executive in Residence during the spring semester and also received points for that experience.
Mary wants some of that cool school swag, so she visits the PRO Store to redeem Reward points. She knows that redeeming Reward points will not affect her PRO points at all. She decides to get a water bottle and a lapel pin to wear at the events in the fall.
At the beginning of spring , Mary is feeling good about her level of professional development, but she wants the top-level school badge and certificate, so she stays engaged. She is very proud of her level of engagement and professional development. At first, she was a little worried that coming in as a transfer student would hinder her in earning points, but it was easy and fun!
She also attends a career fair even though she already has a full-time offer. You never know when you will want to change jobs, so Mary is all into exploring new opportunities. She reports the full-time job offer to get more points and attends the annual Awards Reception again this year.
This brings Mary up to the highest badge level and on top of the leaderboard. She is also very proud of the PRO certificate that she posts on LinkedIn generating congratulations from her friends and future manager! Since it is time to graduate, Mary wants to redeem the rest of her Rewards points, so she visits the PRO Store and cashes the points in for some cool stuff!
