As an Area Manager Intern at Amazon, I was responsible for supporting daily operations within a Distribution center, focusing on safety, efficiency, and team performance. My role involved supervising associates, coordinating workflow to meet productivity goals, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and collaborating with leadership to identify areas for process improvement.
Examples of Projects:
One major project I led was a Cart Safety Audit Initiative. I developed a comprehensive audit process to evaluate the safety condition of warehouse carts, ensuring they met Amazon’s operational and safety standards. I performed regular audits, tracked compliance metrics, and analyzed data to identify correlations between equipment condition and workplace incidents. My findings showed a measurable decrease in injury and near-miss reports after the implementation of the audit, highlighting the effectiveness of proactive safety inspections.
What I Learned and How It Relates to My Major:
Through this internship, I gained hands-on experience in operations management, safety auditing, and data-driven decision-making skills directly aligned with my Business Administration major. Concepts from courses such as Operations Management, Organizational Behavior, and Management Principles were reinforced as I applied them to real-world scenarios, including process improvement, team leadership, and performance analysis. This experience strengthened my understanding of how safety and efficiency strategies contribute to organizational success and employee well-being.
