Commercial Lending Intern
- Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks) – I mainly calculated covenants to measure the healthiness of outstanding loans we had using financial models, as well as attending site visits for potential loans. This was a 10 week, 9-5 internship.
- Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished) – I went on a site visit to a SportsPlex. We needed to see how they were functioning in addition to their financials. The place was super cool with soccer fields, basketball courts, and an arcade room. After the site visit, I went through their financials to calculate their Debt Service Coverage Ratio. I then provided that to the credit underwriting team, who went on to establish the terms of the loan.
- What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this experience in the context of specific courses) – Accounting skills were very necessary here. Running through financial statements and spreads was a part of my daily duty. I learned a lot about how companies operate with their cash inflows and outflows. This was all incredibly applicable to the coursework that I had learned at the time, and am still currently learning.
